Bay Windows Measuring Guide

Measuring Guidelines for Made To Measure pre-bent products
Measuring is usually a 2-person task. You'll need steady step-ladders, pencil and paper - and a bit of patience!

• Always use a steel rule
• Always measure the wall where the track or pole is to be fitted
• Never for instance, measure the bottom of the bay or skirting board
• It is usually best not to try to make allowances for brackets as this is allowed for in the manufacture
• Always measure accurately to the mm - do not round up, or round down
• Measure the segments represented by the solid line in the diagram first
• Then measure the cross diagonals - the broken lines
• Make a light pencil mark on the wall for each point to make sure you measure to and from consistent points
• Do not just measure the window - allow a distance past the window on each side for parking the curtains.
• Battens If you have a batten on the wall measure the front face of the batten if you intend to fit the bracket onto the front face of the batten
• If you have a batten on the ceiling that you want to top fix the track or pole on, measuring the back edge of the batten is usually the best point to measure.
• Silent Gliss 3840 is a top fix (ceiling mount) only track If you want provide wall measurements, the back of the track will be offset by 43mm

TIPS

• Don't assume your bay is symmetrical, they never are!
• Don't assume similar looking size segments will be the same - they never are! 
• If you want to provide less accurate measurements for quotation only, that's fine, we ask this question when you submit your sizes.
• Window Sill - the only time you may want to measure the front edge of the window sill instead of the bay wall is if you want to fit your track or pole to the ceiling either in line with the sill or in front of it for curtains to fall in front of the sill.

Minimum Distance for Reverse Bends
A Reverse Bend is when you want to bring the pole outside of the Bay Window to park the curtains out of the bay onto a wall in the main part of the room. It is not possible to have a reverse bend where the linear distance from the edge of the bay to where you want the pole or track to stop is less than 20cm and there are only a small number of tracks that can achieve this. most tracks and poles will require a minimum linear distance of 30cm an some may require more.

Relax When you place your order, we check your bay sizes on special software - not to see if the bay is symmetrical, but to check the maths.
This means it reduces risk to customers and we wont put the order for making until we are satisfied measurements are tight enough to proceed. So relax!
